Jerry Seinfeld wanted Chris Rock to appear in a funny scene in his Netflix movie Unfrosted. The scene would make fun of an event from last year’s Oscars where actor Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. However Chris Rock decided not to participate because he was still upset about the incident. Instead Cedric the Entertainer took the role.
Unfrosted is a comedy about how Pop-Tarts were invented showing a funny competition between two big cereal companies Kellogg’s and Post.
On the Fly on the Wall podcast, Seinfeld shared that the scene would have shown Chris Rock hitting back if someone tried to hit him on stage. He thought it would be funny if Chris punched the person who approached him.
Despite this idea Chris Rock felt uncomfortable due to the serious nature of the original slap incident and chose not to act in the scene. Jerry Seinfeld understood his feelings, noting that while the scene might have been funny, the painful memory from the Oscars was still strong.
