Real Madrid is playing against Granada this Saturday in a key match in Spain’s top soccer league, La Liga. There are only four games left this season.
Real Madrid has already won the league, and Girona has qualified for the Champions League next year. Now the focus is on which teams might get moved down to a lower league. Granada is close to being moved down. If Real Mallorca wins their game against Las Palmas before Granada plays, Granada will be closer to relegation.
Granada which moved up to the top league just last year is almost at the bottom of the standings, just above Almeria who is already relegated. Granada needs to earn 11 points to stay safe but there are only 12 points available in the remaining games.
Although Real Madrid has won a recent Champions League game they will celebrate their league win on Sunday instead of Saturday. This decision helps Granada’s coach, Jose Ramon Sandoval, who wants to focus on winning the game for their fans.
Another team, Cadiz, still hopes to avoid moving down. They are six points behind Real Mallorca and will play against Getafe on Sunday trying to keep their chances alive.
Meanwhile the competition for places in European tournaments is still going on. Atletico Madrid is working to stay ahead of Athletic Bilbao for fourth place. Real Betis and Valencia are also fighting for a spot in Europe with Betis currently leading.
Watch for Nabil Fekir from Real Betis. He plays a crucial role in his team’s effort to qualify for European competitions.
With lots of exciting games and important stakes, the end of this La Liga season promises to be thrilling.
